I bought this Monster and had lightning again during a bad storm. It was well worth the purchase to protect my 46 inch LCD, home theater receiver, powered subwoofer, etc. I had one of those plain surge protectors that cost about 20 dollars and when my power surged after a lightning strike, it fried and I could smell the burning circuitry. My electricity surged but this think took it in stride.
I haven't had any problems with my equipment. I wanted to protect my equipment from this. The lights in my house dim and flash brighter frequently due to power fluxuations. I feel more secure in the safety of my equipement due to fluxuations. Prior to using the MKII, my Tivo would randomly reboot now and then while watching, but has stopped since I put it on the MKII. I never noticed a picture or sound difference though.For me this is about the power fluxuations. For example, when my 36" tube TV turns on, the lights dime for about 1 second.I am very happy with this power center.
I have noted other reviews which talked about the rigorous requirements of getting repairs or replacement to any of the equipment you have hooked up to the MONSTER,and that sounds much tougher to collect on, however, having been in a business which dealt with warranty claims on electronics, I can empathize because a lot of people either unknowingly or intentionally try to collect for equipment failures which are not supported by the facts. Overall, Im happy with Monster's handling of my claim. They sent me an authorization number to return it which i am in the process of doing.Only problem is that i have to pay the shipping from South Carolina to California. Apparently the length of the warranty isnt always the same and they tell you to look at the paperwork you have to determine how long your warranty was.In my case it turned out I have a 5 year warranty on this product and, since I have only had it for 4 plus years, MONSTER told me it would have to be replaced as the unit had taken an excessive surge which was the reason for the noise. i was primarily looking for surge protection and although it seemed very pricey i fonund it pretty cheap on one of the internet sites.I'm not preoccupied with small improvements in picture quality, sound etc and since i never used the tv i bought without the Monster system, I cant say what it has done for picture, sound etc.From the beginning the TV, Time Warner cable and DVR and my DVD player have worked fine.Last month the Monster started making a slight buzzing sound which, in subsequent weeks became louder and more persistent. I bought the hts 1000 mk11 over 4 years ago when i bought a new 42 inch panasonic plasma tv. I emailed the MONSTER company about it and fortunately had kept my paperwork for the system when i bought it. Still i was impressed by how Monster handled my inquiry and the quickness of their response.
It's built really well, laid out logically and has nice labels. I thought my speakers were quiet before, but until they were plugged into this guy. I've owned it for a year and a half and it seems just as good as when I bought it. It is worth giving it a try
White noise I didn't even notice until it was gone. but the final straw was I started getting some bands of color on the TV. oh man. worst case scenario it ends up being returned. I had some minor distortion periodically on my TV, a few channels were fuzzy. I called my TV repair guy and he replaced the board, but I still had problems. I have to say it has greatly exceeded expectations. the connections all feel secure, but are still simple to plug in and out of.
Over all, I would highly recommend this product. I was definitely skeptical going into this purchase, but its ended up great. A friend told me to try this guy out, so I figured I might as well. It really improved my picture quality on my TV, and what I didn't expect was it got rid of a lot of white noise from my stereo system.
The only shortcoming to this unit is plug spacing which hampers connecting wall-mount-type power supplies. The unit is one of those great "put it in & forget about it" parts that are vital to the overall success of a modest home theater installation.
